Tra la la .... BABIES!

Man this year has been a year of surprises! So last week I went out to the field to catch Moriah for her Preg Check and when i got to the gate can anyone guess what I found???? Yep thats right, a BABY! haha :P Satin foaled about three weeks early at 324 days.  here is what she looks like.
We named her Oprah (pending registration her name will be Chic's Missing Oprah) we decided that name on the day of Oprah's last show. Shes a spunky little girl who loves to run when we let her out of the barn haha :P with all this rain we have every stall full up in the barn with newer or injured babies. Lets just say i'm sick of cleaning stalls lately haha Well update on some babies. When the weather clears i'll go take better pictures of some of the other babies. but its sooo nasty outside that you can't even tell if the babies have white socks or not haha its that bad!

This is Tarzan, who is Jane's foal by Ike Take Time. When he was born he was the biggest foal i've ever seen! his back came up to my hip. :)

This big boy has been named The Hulk, when he was born he certainly did not look like a new born. more like as if he was a couple of weeks old. His neck is so thick and he is just a tank. He is out of Monkey and Fame. love love love

Now meet Rio. He is out of Jill and Chic. He is a stunning baby and absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately he was born with a utrophic (spelling??) eye, meaning his bottom eyelash rolls inward, after the vet unsuccessfully tried the usual method of pumping the eyelid full of penicillin and rolling the eyelid back out, she tried doing a couple of tucks with stitches on the corners of his eyes. It worked :) and he will be just fine <3 When he wants to he holds his head up really erect almost proud like and looks amazing. If i had the money/time/place to buy and raise this boy he would be on my list to get! :)

If you look at the top picture and at the second leg from the left, do you see that odd bump on its leg near the hoof? it actually is a second foot that started growing there before he was born. Since he is not one of our mares i was so excited to get to see his foot. i thought it was absolutely cool, although i don't know what the owners are going to do about it and whether or not it is surgically removable or not.

I thought this was just a lovely picture of the mares out in the field. We got to see about 20 baby canadian geese but didn't have our cameras with us at the time. Man this year has been good so far. I'm working with a girl from Olds, her name is Amanda and she is just awesome!! her driving of the quad on the other had is always fun haha here was my reaction the one day.

Since Amanda doesn't like photos i had to sneak this one in as she was comin through the gate. truly she makes my job entertaining and we have such similar senses of humor that is makes work even more fun. Practial jokes are definitely part of the day. Feeding is never uneventful. Either its her running me over or me dragging her behind the trailer in the mud. haha I love it! <3

Keep on goin. No matter what..

So everyone in the horse industry is currently a little worried. We are seeing a break out of Equine Herpes Virus Myeloencephalopathy (EHV-1). Down in colorado they have even closed down Equine schools to outside mares. There was an event in Claresholm where after the first day they had to cancel it as the horses were becoming so ill. In alberta there have been over 150 cases and 15 horses have died from it so far. Most people are keeping their horses on voluntary quarantine if they start to show symptoms.  It probably is going to result in a severe decline in our business, which isn't a good thing. But like everythin else in life we just gotta keep on going! Right?

Anyways. We have got some suuuper cute babies. This guy Rio, was born on satuday night at about 3:30 am. He was only about 6 hours old when he is born. And i've fallen in love as soon as i saw this guy! <3
Now he is very tall and just an overall good looking colt. There are so many this year that i would love to just buy and take home with me. Alas... I must face reality. Money...its just not there.

Here is an awesome picture of me and Stitch (because when you look so close at her blazes there is a tiny white line which connect them. hence Stitch) . Shes a cute little darling. I really love he mom echo too. Man I just LOVE my job <3

So we finally decided on a name for Cheater's baby, Gambler. we love that name and him =D
Well i'll try and be a little more regular on my posts, but work can be super tiring. Like i've been up since 5:45 and had a mare alarm with 4:45. so sleep didn't really happen last night. once 3 am rolled around i was tossing and turnin, wakin up every few minutes or so. Yah i'm a little tired. soo night yall.

Off With A Bang!

Man, what a way to start work! missed hearing the foal alarm and only woke up cause Carol came and got me. Lets just say I will now sleep with my door open to hear the alarm :P buuuutt.. the end result is...... I HAD MY FIRST FOAL BORN! =D First a little back story with his mama. So his mother's name is dreamer and she was been waxing for the past ten days. (For those of you who don't know, waxing is when they start to drip milk from their bags just before they give birth) Usually mares wax for only a few days before giving birth so we here were getting really impatient. I guess I was just the magic touch <3 haha

So anyways, he was born and we took him into the barn, but since his mother had dripped so much milk, we decided to ensure he got enough nutrients right away we would bottle feed him some colostrum. We had to wait till he was standing, which surprisingly didn't take to long. He was so wobbly last night and still was this morning, because he is a little wind swept in his back legs, so we were calling him Wonky Willy. Out of all the foals born at sandy ridge, only 2 fillys have been born. Its the year of the boys! haha

Willy is a funny little boy and he has a nice pedigree. His sire is Dash for Cash and his Dam is out of Millionaire Playboy. He is gonna be nice when he grows up! Well we also have a few other foals here.

  This is Tellum :D
This is Tellum's foal, he is one of the two oldest foals here on the ranch.
So there is a story  behind this cute little guy. He beat Carol which is a rarity. Honor had this little guy at 331 days, almost 11 days early from what we were expecting. Since he was is such a hurry to come into the world we have named him Rush.
Honor taking care of her little boy. <3
Peek-A-Boo...I see you! haha I really love this photo lots.

This little filly, is turning a nice grey color like her mother. Her mother's name is Merl, I kinda wanna call her Erma haha but I don't think that is going to happen.
This is our yearling blue who is turning out beautifully! shes gorgeous!
The all the yearlings were really friendly today...they all came over and were sniffin me wanting some attention.
Yup and thats our Larry!
We had some really nice weather today so we got to go tackle the lovely chore of de-blanketing all the babies. Rush was fairly cooperative and is just adorable! <3 Well I should get some sleep! work starts early here haha :P
